First, you need to know what you’re doing. Think of meetup.com as not just one website but the gatekeeper of thousands of websites that facilitates offline groups that hold meetings in various localities. Meetup allows members to find and join groups unified by a common interest. What it’s NOT: It’s not a dating site although you can find them there. You can find just about any type of interest group. I started with one that was for folks that are looking to become involved with entrepreneurial interests. I also joined one that was a “Makerspace” or “Hacker Space”. These type of groups are great for getting out and meeting other people before you start looking for singles groups.
First, go to Meetup.com and click the Sign-up button. It’s FREE.
Most groups will charge a very small fee to cover the cost of having the group on Meetup.com’s site. It was not until my third or fourth Meetup that I paid two dollars. The group I belong to that passes an envelope around a few times a year and most people put in a dollar or two, when that runs out they do it again.
These are just a few of the category’s within meetup and each category may have three to fifty groups. “Health & Fitness”, “Arts”, “Dancing”, “Outdoor Activities”, “Travel” and the list goes on. I’m sure you can find something that will interest you.
